“The old two on one”
2 minutes Thrusters for max reps (m 135/115/95, w 75/65)
1 minute rest
2 minutes Burpees
1 minute rest
2 minutes Pullups
3 Rounds, 2 minutes rest between rounds
Balance was feeling like a tropical rainforrest with all the humidity 20 people could generate. I liked how they put in those mirrors, and they were completely fogged up!
I just did the workout today and was pretty useless trying to work right after.

Thought I’d jump on here and post my progress on planning the CFDC Happy Hour. At least I assume I’m still planning it?
I figured since class is held at Dupont that nobody would have a problem getting to the area. And since I am more of a pig than a drunk, and knowing that at least 1 person doesn’t drink, I wanted to suggest places that has as good of a food happy hour as drinks.
So here’s what I have for you guys to vote on and they are in no particular order:
1. Perry’s (Adam’s Morgan around 18th & Columbia Rd.) – Happy Hour at the bar inside and on the rooftop everyday from 5:30 to 7:30. And it looks like they have a few dishes for vegetarians and maybe even vegans. Here’s the link to the HH menu http://www.perrysadamsmorgan.com/event-menus/happy%20hour%20l%20may.doc
2. Thai Chef (North Dupont on Conn. Ave) – Happy Hour everyday from 4 to 7. Only sushi as food specials during happy hour, but for those who’d rather go for Thai food off the regular menu, it’s pretty good and the price is relatively reasonable. My only concern with this place is that they don’t have an actual bar for us to stand at, so it would probably be best to call ahead and reserve a table if we decide to go here. Here’s the link to the happy hour: http://www.thaichefsushibardc.com/menus/Happy%20Hour.pdf
3. Casa Oaxaca (Adams Morgan around 18th and California St.) – Happy Hour from 5 to 7:30 on Friday. Half price appetizers (the ceviche excluded), $4 Margaritas and $3 beers. Authentic Mexican fare, none of the tex-mex crap. The bar’s downstairs, not sure if we can order happy hour specials if we’re not at the bar, but will call and ask if we pick this place. Ok people, cast your votes!
While I’m at it, might as well comment on the workout last night.
I loved it! It kicked my ass. Worked with Andraea and Sara, it was a good team. Sara was helpful at pushing me when I needed it. Thanks!
First time doing thrusters at 75#s, it was heavy but doable at not-so-high reps. Need to concentrate more on keeping my core tight at the bottom and also not going down too fast as Coach said. I think my numbers were 14-15-15.
Burpees…are burpees. They always suck. 25-25-23.
Pull-ups, I’m still trying to get better. The hands held up well last night and didn’t bleed until the last round. I find that pushing away at the top really helps. There were times when I was too tired to push away and that just made going back up so much harder. 19-16-10.
I think if it’s a nice day, then definitely Perry’s. I like their rooftop bar and HH.
I worked with Jade and Dawn and we did 65# thrusters. It was pretty hard and I wasn’t sure if I could do them–but I did (10-8-8). And thanks to Reggie for looking out for me.
Am I the only one that doesn’t mind burpees?
My right shoulder is a little sore today though…not sure about that.
i love burpees
Wee! Choices! Thanks Steph!
Casa Oaxaca sounds goooooooooooooood~ but Perry’s sounds more happy hour friendly.
ps – am I the only non-drinker? =(
At first the mirrors were a turn-off/distraction for me, but after two classes where you guys fogged those things up, it’s pretty fun as a gage of class, LOL
and…burpees aren’t too bad. I’m going to work up to 50 in a row ala Dutch though!
No Maiko, you’re not the only non-drinker 🙂 I actually didn’t know that you didn’t drink!
I don’t anymore! Not after that stomach thing. I’m trying to treat my tummy a little better, just *a little*!
I have a work event on the 5th, so I won’t be able to make it. But Perry’s is a good location for happy hours. They have plenty of room – even if the patio is too crowded. I haven’t been to the Thai Chef so I can’t comment there.
Zach and I both vote for Casa Oaxaca. We haven’t been there, but we have been to Perry’s and we’re all about trying new places. If the vote goes to Perry’s, that is fine, too. We’ve only been there when happy hour was over, and can tell you that drinks get pretty pricey then. I think we paid $8 for a bottled Abita beer – ridiculous!
I could barely drag myself out of bed the next morning after that workout! I was exhausted! As Fatima said, we used 65’s. I think I only did 28 thrusters, but finished with somewhere around 150 total reps for all exercises.
And let it be known that anonymous loves burpees and snatches. Interesting.
I am open to any of the places, but like Maiko said Perry’s sounds the most HH friendly.
I enjoyed this workout. I think the easist for me was the pull-ups. Like Steph it was my first time doing 75lb thrusters. It was tough. I have to continue to work on exploding from the hips on thrusters. I seemed to do ok on the first 5 of each round. I think I too need to focus on keeping my core tight during thrusters.
My totals were:
Thrusters – 46
Burpees – 63
Pull-ups – 76
The advice Karen gave me a couple weeks ago during pull-ups really help me this week and I seemed to find my rhythm again. She said to work on not just keeping the core tight but also focus on push it up like you would if you were looking at yourself in the mirror (suck stomach in and up)
Steph – your pull-ups were very nice. Doesn’t it make all the difference when pushing away from the bar at top.
On another note yesterday I did the WOD posted on the HQ sight
4x 400m run and 50 squats. I shaved 3 minutes off my time from when I did it back in aug or september.
Looking forward to tonight’s workout – maybe there will be more tire flips.
Oh yeah, and Zach said he wants to go to Dan’s Cafe after the HH…
ooh, what’s Dan’s Cafe?
Sara – I was wondering if you did that 400m +50squat WOD when it showed up on the mainpage =P
Dan’s cafe is a place that is not recognizable from the street beecause the door is plywood. You literally pay like $12 for a traveler’s with the liquor of your choice, then they give you a choice of mixers and a bucket of ice. Very classy and if you know the place, you know I’m being sarcastic.
