@$$ WHIPPIN’ THANKSGIVIN’ 2012

Hope everyone are enjoying their respective T-Giving festivities, where-ever you are and whom-ever you are with. Safe travels for all of those who were on the roads this past week and are now setting their sights on the trips back home.

It might seem a little trite, but in the midst of all the gluttony and over-indulgence (if that’s your thing), it’s still appropriate to reflect on what were all thankful for this Thanksgiving. Is fitness still one of them?  It’s important to consider your answer in light of what you’re able to do compared to those around you. Box squats are great, but we’re thinking more along the lines of the simply ability to get up out of a chair and walk to the grocery store, the post office, even the front door.

There are so many circumstances that can make this simple act a real trial – some are due to genetics, occupational hazards, or unforeseen accidents, and some are simply unfortunate decision making. Either way, however, it’s important to be grateful for our ability to do everyday chores without them requiring super-human will to achieve them. So as we proceed into the heart of the holiday season, remind yourselves how lucky you are, not only to have made a great choice as it regards your personal health, but how luck you all are that you’re physically capable of following through on that choice.

To celebrate these abilities, and earn our collective Thanksgiving Day feasts, CFDC and CFDupont came together once again for another epic workout on turkey day. Since last year’s theme of Hero and A Girl went over so well, we decided to re-visit the concept again this year.

2012 T-Giving Partner WOD:
Grace and Whitten

 Grace = 30 C&J for time
 Whitten = 5 rds of 22 KB Swings, 22 Box Jumps, 400m Run, 22 Burpees, & 22 Wall Ball

To ensure fun for all, we ran 4 different scaling options of the workout:

RX’d

Heavy Grace – each partner must complete 30 reps of C&J (M=175/155lb & W=115/105lb) in alternating fashion and no more than 5reps at a time;
Uber Whitten – each person must complete all reps of an exercise before their partner begins on the next exercise, and the pair is to continue alternating until they have completed 6 (six) full rounds. (KB=32kg/24kg, Box=24″+/20″+, Wall Ball=20lb/16lb)

Scaling Group 1A

Grace – each partner must complete 30 reps of C&J (M=135/115lb & W=90/75lb) in alternating fashion and no more than 5reps at a time;
Uber Whitten – each person must complete all reps of an exercise before their partner begins on the next exercise, and the pair is to continue alternating until they have completed 6 (six) full rounds.(KB=32/24/16kg, Box=24″/20”/16”, Wall Ball= 20/16/14lb)

Scaling Group 1

Grace – each partner must complete 30 reps of C&J (M=135/115lb & W=90/75lb) in alternating fashion and no more than 5reps at a time;
Whitten – partners may split the reps of an exercise evenly between them (11/partner), but must complete all prescribed reps of an exercise before moving on to the next (both partners run the 400m simultaneously), and will continue in this fashion until the pair has completed 5 full rounds (KB=24/16kg, Box=20”/16”, Wall Ball=16/14lb)

Scaling Group A

Skinny Grace – each partner must complete 30 reps of C&J (M=95/75 & W=65/50), in alternating fashion and no more than 5reps at a time;
Whitten – partners must complete all prescribed reps of an exercise before moving on to the next but may alternate in any fashion or rep scheme (both partners run the 400m simultaneously), until the pair has completed 5 full rounds (weights & implements may be scaled as needed).

Definitely a good @$$ kickin to start Thanksgiving off!!
Thanks to all who showed and through down with us. We’ll be sure to start planning now for another epic mixture for next year’s iteration.  Until then, enjoy the remainder of your holiday.

    Ass-kicking workout indeed! I worked alone for the metcon and just did 3 round of 22 reps of each exercise with the runs. The wall balls were the worst part – after the swings, jumps, running and burpees there was just nothing left in me to get that ball over that damn 10ft line.

    Some people subbed 22 pullups for the run and that just looked much much worse.

    Had a good turnout! It definitely made me feel better about eating lots of pie later on.

    This looks brutal, wish I could have been there! Nice job on finishing!

    epic for sure! thank you Sara and Tom for coming early to run the workout with me. didn’t realize the second part was a hero workout (thought the 22 was just Tom and Chris having fun with numbers) – but now I can appreciate it properly! 😮
