That was fun! Now what!?!

First, thanks to all the members, both those competing and those spectating, who made this year’s Smackdown such a tremendous success. We had twenty-four teams participate this year – at four people per team, that’s ninety-six CrossFit DC competitors! The energy on Saturday was beyond belief, and that was no more evident than during the final few minutes of the head-to-head finals, when the gym erupted into a awesome display of cheering and encouragement.
From all of us to all of you: thank you for making that such a special event!

Of course, if the competition bug bit you hard, well, we just might have the cure. Over the past two months, CrossFit DC has been testing out a pilot competitive program using coaches and past competitive athletes from the Open and Regionals. We’ve learned a lot, and we’re happy to announce that we will be offering up a competitive CrossFit program to our general membership. More details will follow in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, here are a few essential details to whet your appetite (you know, just to put a bug in your ear):

  • This will be a tiered system, including an Advanced track (think Regional’s capable athletes) and an Intermediate track (athletes looking to compete beyond the walls of CFDC and succeed in the Open);
  • There will be an additional charge for the programming, and because of the nature of the tiered system, there will also be mandatory testing which will occur at regular intervals;
  • There will also be a mandatory competition requirement – it’s not enough to want to do extra programming, we need to see that programming in action!

Hope that’s piqued your interest!

Of course, if you dug the Smackdown, but instead of more competition, you’re simply looking for the next CrossFit DC event, well get ready, as the next few months are looking action packed!

Saturday, October 18: EOD 130 Memorial WOD

Sunday, October 26: CrossFit DC Pumpkin Carving Social

  • Following our regular class times on Sunday, October 26, CFDC will be holding a pumpkin carving social at our 14th Street location. This is open to all CFDC members and their families (i.e., all ages welcome), and food and drink will be provided. Pumpkins will be pre-ordered, so please keep an eye out for registration and order information.

Wednesday, November 12: Wade’s Army fundraiser workout “Wade”

  • CrossFit DC is proud to support the Wade’s Army fundraiser once again in the fight against the pediatric cancer, Neuroblastoma. Registration and fundraising for Wade’s Army has already begun. You can check out the Wade’s Army fundraising page for more information, and be sure to stop by the CrossFit DC fundraising page to help keep us rolling towards our goal of a $2,500. Then mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 12th, when we’ll run the workout “Wade” as part of class in honor of the efforts to fight that which fights against our future generations.

Thursday, November 27: Annual CrossFit DC Thanksgiving Beatdown

  • Come on, do we really need to remind you this is coming? Get ready to earn your feasts!

Before you all start scratching your heads in confusion tomorrow, we wanted to remind everyone that starting next month, your membership fees will see an increase of 5.75% due to the new DC “gym tax.” We’re not overly thrilled about the tax either, but, since overall tax rates will decline for the vast majority of our members under the new tax bill, we’re not letting it bug us too much.
We figure that’s enough information to keep you busy (as bees?) for the next few weeks. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Otherwise, see you in the gym soon!
