When Rahul K. started Elements with us at 14th Street in November 2013, he was just looking for a way to get in shape before the biggest day of his life.  As it turns out, though, he didn’t just find a new workout routine at CrossFit DC — he found a community.

“I started [CrossFit] just to get in shape for [my] wedding,” Rahul says, “but enjoyed the workouts and the people so much that I have stuck with it and plan to continue to do so.”

“It’s amazing to see [the] results,” he adds, “and it makes me want to keep pushing.”

Not long after returning from his honeymoon, Rahul wrote us a note just to say thank you, for helping him “get healthy and in shape generally, and especially for the wedding!”  Actually, Rahul — the pleasure’s been all ours.  Thank YOU for letting us be a part of your fitness journey… and for being a part of ours!

Read on to hear more about Rahul’s CrossFit experience — from how he’d describe CFDC in abbreviated fashion (we might just have to steal that tagline!) to his workout music of choice (no promises from Head DJs Coaches Chris and Tom, though — sorry, dude!), to what keeps him coming back to the gym for more.

How long have you been doing CrossFit, and what inspired you to begin?

I have been doing CrossFit for almost a year now.  I began because I wanted to get healthier generally, and get in shape for my wedding (which happened over Memorial Day).

Describe CrossFit DC in… oh, 7 syllables.

A lot of pain, but worth it

“[CrossFit] helps me achieve my goal of better health while being alongside an amazingly supportive community.”

Favorite and least favorite CrossFit movements?

Not sure I have a favorite movement, but I definitely dislike overhead squats — I lack the flexibility to maintain good form on those.

Tell us about a goal you’re working toward — in the gym or beyond.

In the gym, just generally trying to get healthier.  It’s amazing to see results, and it makes me want to keep pushing.

Bringing the heat!

What do you do when you aren’t flinging heavy weights around the gym?

Practicing healthcare law, and tending to my hobby of making cocktails.

What do you know now about CrossFit that you wish you knew when you started?

I wish I knew to listen to my body and to take rest days when my body tells me to.

Why do you do CrossFit?

It helps me achieve my goal of better health while being alongside an amazingly supportive community.
