Whelp, with just over two weeks to go till the Smackdown (Saturday, Oct. 24, 9am-5pm), it’s time to get those teams registered.

In the off-chance you’re unfamiliar with what all this nonsense about a “Smackdown” is about, be sure to check out our original announcement about what the Smackdown is, why it’s so awesome (apart from the fact that it’s at CFDC), and how you can become a part of it.

For those of you ready and raring to go, Registration will officially open tomorrow, Friday, October 9th at 5pm, and will close Friday, October 16th at 5pm. The Wait List will continue to remain open until Tuesday, October 20th at 5pm. The $40 registration team registration fee ($40/team, or $10/teammate if you wish) will need to be submitted by 5pm, Friday, October 23rd.

Now, in timeline format for the OCD of us:

Friday, Oct 9th (5pm) = Smackdown Registration and Wait List opens
Friday, Oct. 16th (5pm) = Smackdown Registration closes
Tuesday, Oct. 20th (5pm) = Smackdown Wait List closes
Friday, Oct. 23rd (5pm) = Registration Fees must be paid
Saturday, Oct. 24th (9am-5pm) = SMACKDOWN!!

To register, designate a team representative, and then have that person sign your team up when the registration goes live (just a heads up: the team representative is responsible for sharing all Smackdown information with the rest of the team). The team representative will need the following information when registering a team:

  • choose whether it’s a complete team being Registered, or a partial team jumping on the Wait List;
  • provide the best team name ever;
  • provide the name of all 4 individuals on the team;
  • indicate how many people from the team will be going to the Smackdown after-party just down the street at Vendetta Bocce Bar and Tavern;

Don’t have a complete team quite yet? Don’t worry, we have a solution: Partial teams may enter their information on the Wait List – you only need a Team Name and a Team Representative. If a partial team finds that missing member, AND if there is a space still open, they may then register their team formally. If no spaces are available, they will be moved up the Wait List, and given seniority based on their registration time (not when they finalized their team). After the Wait List close on the 20th, though, all bets are off, as we won’t be accepting any registrations past this deadline.

Finally, the $40 registration fee may be paid by cash, check, or credit card (card payments will be processed through CrossFit DC’s online management system, Front Desk, similar to a monthly membership payment; however, we’d prefer CC charges be made to one person, rather than splitting the charges up into $10 increments).

And what to do you get for all this effort? Per the norms of the Smackdown set-up:

  • 4 workouts for each team, plus a 5th final workout for the top 5 teams;
  • 2 of the Workouts will be for the whole team, while the other 2 workouts will involve 1 guy & 1 girl from each team (unsurprisingly, it must be a different pair for each of these workouts)
  • All the workouts will be made-up of accessible movements (READ: everyone can complete every workout!)

We might announce any of the first 4 workouts as early as Monday, Oct. 19th, but then again, we might just keep feeding you all hints and teasers on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram up until the day before. Just saying it’s been known to happen.

Questions? Drop in the comments section below, and we’ll get right back to you. Otherwise, pick a rep, and make sure they’re at the ready for the registration release this Friday!

Sincerely,
The CrossFit DC Smackdown Team
