How long have you been doing CrossFit (and what inspired you to begin)? How long have you been at CFDC? Why did you chose CFDC?
I’ve been doing CrossFit for a year now. I started because it seemed like all my friends back home were doing it and I just really needed to understand why they couldn’t stop talking about it. I was way too intimidated to try it until my roommate found a groupon for the CFDC elements class and obviously discounts make everything less frightening. I’ve been here ever since.
Who inspires you (in the gym or beyond)? Anyone who can get through snatch day without threatening to quit and never come back.
Favorite post-workout meal? Sweet potatoes and literally anything. And in a perfect world, Blue Bell ice cream for dessert.
Favorite CFDC memory to date? Smackdown 2016. Team Kip It 100 may not have won but we were truly excellent at celebrating and not taking ourselves too seriously.
Proudest accomplishment (in the gym or beyond)? Surviving a terrible workout in Ukraine where I had to use google translate just to understand the white board was a pretty proud moment. Choosing to work out with strangers in a foreign country was something I never would have done if CFDC hadn’t convinced me I could get through most things without dying and it was really neat to see that whole “community” aspect of CrossFit transcend a super significant language barrier.
If you had a spirit animal, it’d be…almost certainly grumpy cat.
Burpees: yay or nay? Nay is not quite strong enough.
Tell us something that might surprise most people at the gym. I grew up in the cattle business in Texas and I still go back to work on our ranch whenever I can.
Tell us about one coaching cue that has helped you the most— Definitely Steve’s scarecrow arms that always come before he yells ‘high pull.’ Also, Lance telling me that I look like I’m squatting in ski boots was seriously the motivation I needed to improve my mobility.
