What do you do/like to do outside of the gym?

Off my yoga mat, I’m a Captain in the U.S. Army. If I’m not in a coffee shop buried in a good book, I’m exploring bookstores around the city looking for one.

What inspired you to start teaching yoga?

I wanted to bring my students the same thing that I found on the mat many years ago–unconditional self-acceptance. In this world where everything feels so mandatory, the mat is the one place where everything is optional. Yoga is freedom to experience ourselves exactly as we are.

Best yoga cue/tip you’ve ever received?

Don’t work on the pose. Instead, let it work on you.

Favorite yoga pose and why?

I find Pigeon Pose to be deeply rewarding. Not only does it release tension in my glutes, piriformis, and hip flexors, but it also prepares my mind for meditation.

Favorite memory from coaching at CFDC?

My favorite memories are all of welcoming new athletes to yoga! It is a joy and a privilege to be able to introduce the practice to someone for the first time.
