How long have you been doing CrossFit and how long have you been at CrossFit DC?
We both started CrossFit back in 2017 and then switched to CrossFit DC in November 2021 after our old gym closed. And the noon classes quickly won us over.
What do you do when you’re not crushing workouts at the gym?
If we’re not at CrossFit, most days you can find us rowing with Capital Rowing Club. If you’re out in Navy Yard in the evening, you might be able to spot Ieva rowing by and you’ll never see Egle because she’s out there at the ungodly hour of 5:30am. Otherwise, we love watching Formula 1 races Sunday mornings, torturing our friends on challenging hikes, board game nights, or just lazing around with our cats.
What is a goal you’re currently working towards (in the gym or beyond)?
Ieva (the super tall sister): Double Unders – I’ve been working on them on and off for over a year and it might be another year before I get my first one. But, I haven’t given up hope yet (and thankfully Amon hasn’t either).
Egle (the short sister): Stringing Toes to Bar or more Double Unders together (it’s a family struggle).
Favorite and least favorite CrossFit movements/workouts?
Ieva: My favorite movement is the Deadlift and my least favorite is anything that involves me going upside down.
Egle: I really like the Split Jerk and anytime Handstand Push Ups are programmed. I’m working on hating Front Squats less.
What is one coaching cue/tip that has helped you recently?
Ieva: Amon recently recommended that I hold the foot of my non-working leg in Pistol Squats and this has been a game changer for me.
Egle: Amon has so many! Every time he tells me to kick harder on Handstand Push Ups I somehow can find a few extra in me that I definitely didn’t think I had.
What is something you wish you knew about CrossFit when you first started?
Even though everyone says it, we never expected how great the community is and that we’d make some awesome friends.
