How long have you been doing CrossFit and how long have you been at CrossFit DC

James: I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2016 and at CrossFit DC since 2021.

Andrew: I’ve been doing CrossFit for seven years and at CrossFit DC for about five months.

What do you do when you’re not crushing workouts at the gym?

James: Outside of CrossFit and work, I enjoy playing kickball and going out with friends.

Andrew: I’m probably either working or hanging out with my dog.

What is a goal you’re currently working towards (in the gym or beyond)?

James: Right now, I’m doing some more work on Olympic lifting, trying to hit some PRs.

Andrew: I’d like to be able to Snatch 225. That would be a pretty big milestone and I’ve been close for about two years.

Favorite and least favorite CrossFit movements/workouts?

James: Favorite- Cleans; least favorite- Ring Muscle Ups and running

Andrew: My favorite CrossFit movements would either be heavy Cleans or Handstand Walks. My least favorite is definitely running.

What is one coaching cue/tip that has helped you recently?

James: Thinking about getting tall in the Split Jerk, lots of people think too much about getting under the bar.

Andrew: Spot your toes when you’re doing Chest to Bar and you get way more lift.

What is something you wish you knew about CrossFit when you first started?

James: I think a lot of people are under the impression that they need some exercise experience before they start CrossFit. That’s definitely not true.

Andrew: Having good movement efficiency and technique matters way more than just going really hard all the time.
